Tena koutou tena koutou tena koutou katoa

Welcome back to a fresh new school term. Special greetings to our new students and their families – we are delighted to welcome you into our school whanau.
Recently we received news that our long-serving Assistant Principal and SENCO Jody Barrell will be leaving us. We are very sad to be losing Jody with her many varied talents and love for the children. She has made a huge contribution to our school community and she will be missed greatly. We hope to make her last days at Totara Grove School very special. See below for information about farewell events.
There is a NZ wide teacher strike planned for 15th August. We will let you know as soon as this has been confirmed. School will be closed for the duration of the strike. There will be no supervision of children or After School Care on that day.
Three-way Conferences will be taking place next week. Hopefully you have made appointments to meet with your children and their teachers next Wednesday or Thursday 1-2 August to discuss their learning. There are still spaces available – please contact the school office to set up a time.
School will end at 1.00pm on those two days to allow time for interviews with all students. There will be After School Care from 1.00pm on those two days for those children who already attend.

Tahi Kaitiaki Planting Day 2018 Sand dune planting project
Totara Grove School were invited by “Tahi” to participate in their sand dune planting project. They have offered 100 meters of their beautiful sand dune to be restored and planted with existing species pertaining to their sand dune health. Tamariki from our Senior School Whanau were chosen to participate in a kaitiaki planting project at Pataua North. Through classroom inquiry based on Manaakitanga and the tikanga behind being a Kaitiaki, This project allowed the opportunity for our school to participate in one full days planting with a follow up planting day each year. This gives our tamariki the responsibility of caring for their area and the opportunity to see the growth of their work while learning about our coastal ecosystem. It was a very productive day of planting. Our tupu tahi and team work were definitely out to play for an enjoyable day for all.
