Thursday 9th August 2018 No. 13
Tena koutou tena koutou tena koutou katoa

Thank you to everyone for your part in last week’s successful three-way conferences. These conversations about learning are an important part of the work we are doing to empower our tamariki and build their confidence as learners. The feedback from parents about the reporting and conference process was generally very positive. We will be using this information as part of our review for 2018 and to inform planning for 2019.
It was great to see lots of whanau at the Senior Team camp meeting on Tuesday evening. This will be a wonderful opportunity to stay at the Matihetihe Marae and experience a truly rural environment. For those who were unable to attend the hui please feel free to contact your child’s teacher if you have any questions about the trip. All proceeds from Friday’s disco will go towards keeping the camp costs down as much as possible.
Next week on Wednesday 15th August school will not be open for instruction due to the Teacher Strike. There will be no supervision of children or After School Care on that day. We acknowledge the disruption this causes and we are grateful for the support from parents. On the day there will be a march through Whangarei streets starting from Forum North at about 11.30am. Anyone who supports the teachers’ claims for better pay and working conditions is invited to join the march.

Four student councillors went to Bunnings last week to build the seat under the expert supervision of Darcy Smith, Bunnings Community Activities Organiser. Darcy will organise the delivery of the bench to school and the other student councillors will paint it. They will also be involved in planning the positioning of the seat and introducing it to the school.

KidsCan Fundraising Day – #CrazyForKidsCan
KidsCan Crazy Day is just around the corner on Thursday 23rd of August.
It’s a nationwide fundraising day where students are encouraged to wear or bake something a little crazy!!
Along with the dress ups and food, a gold coin donation would be greatly appreciated. All proceeds help KidsCan provide the basics for Kiwi kids who need it most. This includes food at school, school shoes & socks, raincoats and basic healthcare products.
A little crazy goes a long way for Kiwi kids in need.
Garden To Table
As we start a new term of Garden To Table we would like to welcome Whaea Monique on board as our new kitchen specialist. We are very excited to be working with her. The children have all
earned their knife licences which means they are up to date with safe practices when using a kitchen knife and we have been harvesting a lot of fresh produce from our garden.
This week on the menu was salad of the imagination and apple and cinnamon muffins. If you or anyone you know has a few spare hours free on a Thursday we would love to have some extra hands to support our kaupapa.
