Tena koutou tena koutou tena koutou katoa

I hope you managed to catch one of the recent performances of the school Kapa Haka Group Ururakau Totara. They’ve had a busy programme representing the school very well at the Whangaruru Cultural Festival, wowing the oldies at a show for superannuitants at the Kamo Club and impressing everyone with their skills at the Raurimu Cultural Day. There is plenty of individual talent within the group and it is wonderful to see a real sense of unity developing. Thank you and congratulations to the tutors Whaea Casey and Whaea Ness.
I look forward to seeing everyone at our end of year prizegiving ceremony at the Tikipunga High School Auditorium on Wednesday 12th December at 10.00am. On Thursday 13th December at 2.00pm, we will have a school assembly to acknowledge some special achievements and farewell our staff who are leaving. Friends and whanau are welcome to join us.

Farewell Whaea Luella
Recently we received news that our long-serving Deputy Principal Luella Donaldson will be leaving us. Luella has made a great contribution to our school community and she will be missed greatly. We hope to make her last days at Totara Grove School very special.
All parents, whanau, past pupils and friends are warmly invited to join us in saying a special goodbye to Whaea Luella at an informal pot luck dinner in the Hall at 6.00pm on Monday 10th December.
End Of Year Reports
Written Progress and Achievement Reports will be sent home with the children on Thursday 13th December. Remember to ask the children to give them to you – hopefully they are all proud of their results for the year. If you have any queries about the report, please contact your child’s teacher.
Crossing the Road Before School
Kia ora school whanau. To keep our tamariki safe we have had staff posted at the three road crossings close to the school. We have become aware of the traffic hazards in these areas during the morning.
Each of the three staff will be at their crossing at 8:30am. We are asking for the children to arrive at these crossings after 8:30 so the adults can help them cross safely. For some this may mean leaving home a little later in the mornings. Thanks for your help.
2019 Stationery
Following on from the letter we sent out on Tuesday we would like to let you know that we are now partnering with Officemax to do our stationery for 2019.
All stationery is to be purchased from Officemax for the 2019 year. If you take advantage of their special December “Say when you Pay’ offer – ideal for getting organised before Christmas – you will receive a free gift.

2018-19 Summer Reading Programme Year 3, 4 & 5 Students
An awesome turn out from our whanau. We are all ready for a summer filled with reading and fun.
Road Patrollers Fun Day
Our Year 6 road patrol students have been working hard this year ensuring that our tamariki crossing the road after school are safe. It is a big responsibility but these amazing students have dedicated their time to helping others.
On the 14th of November the New Zealand Police in Whangarei put on a thank you day at the Whangarei Aquatic Pools and provided a BBQ for our road patrol students. They had so much fun swimming, playing games, soaking in the spa, bombing, sliding and meeting new people from other schools. Thank you to the Whangarei Police – we appreciate you all.
Maths Day in Ruma Waru
Ruma waru had lots of fun during our world maths day last week. From learning how to play chess, to creating our own shopping lists and making toasties with a maths twist. A great way for our
tamariki to have fun with maths and see the different ways maths can be done.
Here are some student voices:
Jordyn- learning new things and having challenges was fun.
Kowhai- I liked doing chess and working with my friends.
Paiti- I liked making the toasties and trying to get the points.
Tyler- I liked cooking and dominos when me and Kymani had to count them all to see how far we could build it.
Room Ten is Spreading Some Christmas Cheer … Can you help us to help others?
The children in Room 10 have been learning what it is to be a Rangatira. A Rangatira is someone who is a good leader and a role model at home, in school & out in the community.
We have decided to pick an organisation to help this Christmas season by donating some food and simple homemade kids games. We have chosen Soul Food.
We have chosen Soul Food because they are always helping kids and families in need. From Te Mana, Johniedon & Corey.
If you would like to make a donation of packaged food items to Soul Food you can send them along to Room Ten and we will happily pass them on.
