Tena koutou tena koutou tena koutou katoa

It is hard to believe that 2018 is almost at an end. This has been another successful year at Totara Grove School. We are all sad to be saying goodbye to our fifty-four Year Six students who are moving on to new schools. We are proud of the fine young people they have become and we look forward to hearing about their future adventures and successes.
I hope to see many of you at Prizegiving on Wednesday at 10.00am in the Tikipunga High School Auditorium. We are very grateful to the High School for their support in sharing their facilities with us.
Prizegiving is a chance to celebrate successes and to farewell our Year Six students who will all receive a graduation certificate.
There have been many highlights for the year, including some fabulous trips, sleepovers and camp. A big thank you to our dedicated staff who work so hard for the benefit of the tamariki. There are some staff leaving us – Whaea Luella, Whaea Alysha, Mrs Whyte and Whaea Sara. They have all given great service and made excellent contributions to our school. We wish them all the very best for their future endeavours. Everyone is invited to a school Assembly on Thursday at 12 noon where we will officially say goodbye and thank you to these staff members.
A reminder that school finishes on Friday at 12noon. The first day in 2019 is Wednesday 30th January.
Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and safe and happy holidays.

Year 6 Dine and Dance

This Thursday the 13th of December 2018, we are holding a Dine & Dance to celebrate our Year 6 students who will be moving on to Intermediate next year.
It is a time for them to let their hair down, enjoy some yummy kai, have a kanikani and reflect on their final year of primary school.
We look forward to seeing our Year 6 children there!
End Of Year Reports
Written Progress and Achievement Reports will be sent home with the children on Thursday 13th December. Remember to ask the children to give them to you – hopefully they are all proud of their results for the year. If you have any queries about the report, please contact your child’s teacher.
2019 Stationery
Following on from the letter we sent out on Tuesday we would like to let you know that we are now partnering with Officemax to do our stationery for 2019.
All stationery is to be purchased from Officemax for the 2019 year. If you take advantage of their special December “Say when you Pay’ offer – ideal for getting organised before Christmas – you will receive a free gift.
Here is the link for this offer – myschool.co.nz/December-offer
2018 School Magazine
This year’s school magazine will be given out on Thursday to Year Six students. For everyone else, these will be available to purchase for $2.00 each on a pre-order basis. They are a great memento of the school year. There is a page for every class. Please place your order at the office.
After School Care
There is no After School Care on Friday. The last day for 2018 ASC is Thursday 13th December.
Starting from 2019, After School Care will no longer be organised by the school, but it will still be held daily in the school hall. Sandra North from Kidzone will take over the operation. For further information talk to Mrs Olley in the office or talk to the After School Care staff.
Garden Vacancies
We have an opportunity for a garden specialist for our “Garden To Table” programme beginning in Term 1 2019.
The position involves overseeing small groups of children maintaining the vegetable gardens and teaching gardening in a safe way. You will be working alongside volunteers and teachers. We seek an enthusiastic gardener who works well with children and demonstrates their passion for helping tamariki in their learning. The role will initially be five hours per week.
We also have a vacancy for a casual on-call gardener for general garden duties. We foresee this person being required for approximately 4hrs per week.
If either of these positions is of interest to you, please contact the Totara Grove School office.
Library News
We have had 26 fabulous librarians this year. They have all worked hard in achieving their awards as well as keeping the library open for games and looking bright and inviting for us all.
These seven librarians worked especially hard and were invited to the town library recently to receive special Golden Librarian awards.
We are very proud of all our librarians and would like to say thank you all for your hard work.
