Tena koutou tena koutou tena koutou katoa

Lana Wolfgram (2)

Thank you to everyone who attended Tuesday’s Meet the Teacher/Have a Go evening. There was a great turn-out of parents and whanau. The purpose of the event was to provide opportunities for relationship building. It was also an opportunity to introduce our fabulous teaching staff. There is strong evidence that good relationships between teachers and whanau have a positive impact on childrens’ engagement at school and academic achievement. Looking around at all the happy faces on Tuesday evening showed that people were enjoying the informal opportunity to meet teachers, I Have a Dream navigators and other parents. Opportunities for meeting in slightly more formal situations will come later. On 27th & 28th March there will be three-way conferences. These are fifteen- minute meetings involving parents, the student and the teacher discussing learning goals. Between now and then, we’d love to see you at school. The teachers are happy for whanau to visit the class with the tamariki before or after school.  If you have any questions or concerns, please make an appointment to meet with the teacher or a school leader.

I hope you are all enjoying the glorious warm weather. This is the first full school week of the year – there will be some tired children (and teachers) leaving school on Friday afternoon.

Notice of Road Closure

In the next few weeks Okaihau Place will be closed off with a locked gate as work begins on developing that part of the subdivision. That means there will be no parking area on that side of the school. Children will need to enter school at the Corks Road or Wairau Drive gates. Please take extra care with parking – vehicles parked on yellow lines are a real danger as they block the view for pedestrians. We have staff on duty supervising children crossing on Corks Road, Wairau Drive and the roundabout from 8.30 – 8.55am and 3.00 – 3.15 pm.

Parent Help Needed

If you have 15-20 minutes free to help us prepare the school lunch orders at 9am on one or more weekdays, the office staff would love to hear from you.

We are also looking for volunteers to work with the students in our Garden to Table programme on Thursdays from 9am to 1pm.

School Newsletters Online

Last year TGS made the change to an online newsletter which is published every 2nd Thursday during term. The newsletter can be found on our website www.totaragrove.school.nz. A link is also posted on our Facebook page. If you would like the newsletter to be emailed directly to you and are not already in our mailing list, please let office staff know your email address.

Ki-O-Rahi

Staff and students took part in a Ki-o-rahi workshop after school last week.

The goal was to learn the rules and skills of the game to play in school and take part in Ki-o-rahi tournaments in our rohe.

Karawhiua mai! Bring it on!

Kanohi ki te kanohi ( face to face)

We are getting to know our class mates through playing and talking to one another.

This was our first Buddy reading with Room 10. We’re enjoying the good weather and getting to know our buddies.
