Tena koutou tena koutou tena koutou katoa
Term Four has started with a hiss and a roar and now there are only six weeks of school left for this year! There continues to be lots of work being done around the school grounds. The senior playground is currently being relocated to make way for the driveway/dropoff zone being constructed early next year. Teachers are busy writing end of year reports. These will be sent home with the children on 11th December. Staffing for 2020 will be confirmed over the next few weeks and then we will be working on class placements for 2020. Teachers all know their students well and will make recommendations for placement of children moving into another team. If you have any further information that you feel should be considered, please talk to the Curriculum Leader Donna Walker or the Team Leader- Maureen Toki – Junior School, Deanne Heta – Middle School or Vanessa Peters – Senior School.

Thank you to Mrs Fryer and Mrs Irene who have worked hard all year to train up our librarians to such high standards.
The new scooter track has been opened today. The winner of the lucky draw to be the first official rider was Oceana from Ruma 8.
The Year 1 and 2 children will use the track during morning tea break and the Year 3-6 children will use it during lunch break. Children will only be allowed to use their scooter on the track if they are wearing a helmet and shoes. Initially, children will need to bring their own scooters and helmets. We have a small supply of school equipment that can be borrowed. We plan to apply for some charity funding to buy some more.
Term 4 raffle
The children will be bringing home a raffle book over the next few weeks. Please make sure that you return the book the next day with the money for any tickets sold. When the books are not returned, other children in the class are missing out on the opportunity to sell tickets.

School Donations 2020
Our school has chosen to be part of the government donations scheme for 2020, where the school receives extra money for each student in return for not asking parents for school donations or payment for extra activities. At Totara Grove School, we have always kept extra costs as low as possible by applying for funding from charity groups and subsidising activities to keep costs down and include everyone. Being part of this scheme means we will be able to provide stationery at the start of the year for no cost to families and school trips will be free. We may however, need to ask for contributions towards camps.
Never swim alone – always have an adult with you and actively supervising.
Check the weather/environment and conditions before you swim.
Let someone know where you are going and what time you will be home.
Always wear a lifejacket – keep yourself safe……..you are #1!
IF IN DOUBT, STAY OUT.
As we are a Sunsmart school, children are expected to wear brimmed hats when outside in the sun during summer. Each class has a set of hats which are allocated to individuals. Children are allowed to wear their own hat as long as it has a brim all the way around. Baseball-type caps are not allowed. After Labour Weekend children not wearing hats outside will be expected to remain in covered areas around the buildings.
Recycle & Win
Our school is competing in the COLGATE COMMUNITY GARDEN CHALLENGE!!
The schools that collect the most oral care waste and online votes can win a recycled community garden set.
Please send us all your dental waste: toothbrushes, toothpaste tubes, toothpaste caps, floss containers and their outer packaging materials.
Vote for us online and track our school’s ranking at: www.terracycle.co.nz/colgategardenvoting
The bell rings for the start of the school day at 9.00am and at 3.00pm to mark the end of classes for the day.
Please do not enter classrooms before 3pm as this may be disruptive to our children’s learning.
Office hours are 8.00am – 3.30pm.
Breakfast Club operates in the hall every morning between 8.00am and 8.45am. There should be no children at school before 8.15am unless they are at Breakfast Club.
Enrolments for Year 7
A reminder to parents of Year 6 students to make sure they are enrolled in a school for next year.
Pedestrian crossing – Just a reminder that if your children walk to school, staff are supervising the crossings in the mornings from 8:30-8:55am. Please make sure if they are walking that they come to school within these times to be kept safe crossing the busy roads.
Reporting student absences
We are now sending daily texts or emails to parents of students who have not advised us why their child/ren are absent that day.
Please advise us of any absences before 9.30am each day by calling the office on 4350019, texting 021 0272 4313 or using the ‘report an absence’ option on our website.
If you are sending in an absence note with another child, please advise them to give it to the office staff.
Students and Cellphones
Cell phones should be kept at home, however if they do come to school they must be handed in to the office or to the class teacher for safe keeping.
Bringing Valuables To School
Children are not allowed to bring toys or valuable items to school and if they do, they do so at their own risk. If for any reason a child needs to bring something special, they can hand it into the office in the morning and collect it at the end of the day.
