Tena koutou tena koutou tena koutou katoa

Welcome to a new term of learning. Our focus this term is AKO. We will be working on skills, activities and behaviours that prepare us to participate in an ever-changing world.

On Monday I had the privilege of  being able to welcome new students and their whanau as well as new staff members into our school as part of our whakatau.

We have two new staff members joining our team.

Whaea Rachael is a Kaiārahi (a guide & mentor). She will be working with individual students and small groups.

Whaea Charlotte has been employed for the rest of this year to work in Te Kākano with Whaea Laura.

Just a reminder that we have 3 Way Conferences  coming up in Week 3 on Wednesday 5th and Thursday 6th August. School will finish at 1pm on each of these days as conferences will run from 1:30pm – 6:00pm on both days. At these conferences children will be sharing their learning and selecting their Ako goal which they will work on over the term. You can book for these conferences on the Skool Loop app or alternatively you can ring the Office staff for them to book you in. All Skool Loop app bookings go in the draw to win one of 3 Countdown vouchers.

We look forward to seeing you at the conferences.

School Stories/Memories

We are wanting to hear from past students to tell us their stories or memories of Totara Grove School. If you have a story to tell please write it down and hand it into the Office or pop into to see Whaea Donna or Whaea Ness and share your story with them. We want to collect and compile these stories into a resource that can be shared with our students today but also with future students to see our school journey.

Tītītōrea rākau

We would like to make a set of Tītītōrea rākau for each of our syndicates out of manuka.
In order to do this we would need your help.
– Does anyone have access to manuka that we can cut to size to use?
– During our student conferences we are having a working bee to shave these.
– Do you have some spare time to pop into the staffroom and have a go at shaving the rākau with kutai shells?
– Does anyone have kutai shells we could use?
If you can support us in any way please contact the school Office.
Nga mihi

Manu Aute – Kites

Last term Room 10 were learning about the significance of kites in the Maori Culture. During our Whanau Matariki celebration day we asked our whanau that visited to help us design art works that symbolised their whanau. They were then used to make these beautiful Manu Aute.

Totara Grove School Three Way Conferences

3 way conferences will take place in the third week of Term 3 being Wednesday 5th & Thursday 6th of August.

Bookings can be made on the Skool Loop App. Select INTERVIEWS and then choose the teacher/s you would like to book a time with. Conferences are 15 minutes long. We suggest that you do not make back-to-back bookings as this will not allow you time to move between classes. Only remaining available time slots will show, so if you need a specific time please make sure you install the app and book as soon as possible.

Conference bookings are available live on the app now.

Please call the office on 4350019 to make a booking if you are unable to access the internet.

School Carpark

Just a reminder – please do not park in the disabled carpark. It is reserved for cars displaying the disabled parking sticker only.

Skool Loop App

We have decided that using the Skool Loop app will be the best application for us to use to keep you informed of what is going on at school.

The school loop app has features such as a linking to the school calendar, notices and messages can be sent directly to you, you can report absences, submit school trip permission slips, get the school newsletter and book for parent interviews.

We hope you will take the opportunity to get the app on your phone (it works on both android and iphone)

For more information please go to

 Breakfast Club

The school runs a breakfast club from the hall each morning. Children are welcome from 7:45am and it finishes at 8:30am.
