Wednesday 3rd March 2021 No. 3
Tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou katoa,
The school year is now well under way.
Our children are settled into learning routines and are taking part in a range of different activities. We have had a local author visit our school and donate a book for each child in the school, Matua Wyllie comes in to teach sports skills and swimming sports have begun.
Exposing the children to all these various activities helps the children to develop and shape themselves in a number of ways. They have experiences they may never get again, see job possibilities for the future and help to see the world in different ways.
The vision of the New Zealand Curriculum wants “young people who will be confident, connected, actively involved, lifelong learners.”
It is great to have these opportunities and to be able to provide them for our children.
We also value whanau input – it is great to be able to have the opportunity over the next two days for you to share with us your aspirations for your whanau and how we can support that.
He aha te mea nui o te ao?
Ko te tamaiti, tona whanau, tona ao.
What is the most important thing in this world?
The child, their family, their world
TUPU TAHI – GROWING TOGETHER. STANDING STRONG. REACHING HIGH.

2021 Totara Grove Senior Swimming World Championship
Another swimming term is underway. As always the teachers have been working hard to provide fun swimming programmes for the kids. The tamariki have also been able to swim during break times when teachers volunteer to supervise. This has been valuable on those very hot days.
The Senior Swimming Sports was lots of fun this year with music and cheering. Pohutukawa were the winning house this year. 145 points. Congratulations!
Rimu won the house relay which was very close and exciting.
The selected school team representing the senior school provided some challenge for the adult relay team. The kids were up against athletes like Whaea Yvonne, Whaea Kay, Whaea Jeanne, Mr Kelly (AKA the dolphin) and Matua Anaru. We had super star whanau swimmers added to the team; Terry Lee and Whaea Kura. Well done! And thank you.
Thanks to Whaea Ness, Whaea Donna, Mrs Fryer, Whaea Yvanne, Whaea Kay, Whaea Racheal, Matua Wiremu and Mr Wolfgram for their efforts, making this a smooth event.
Thanks to all the whanau and friends of the school for their support which is very important to the tamariki.

A huge thank you to Dalece Steed for nominating our school in a recent social promotion. We are the recipients of 240 sun hats for our children to be sun smart.
