Te Kura o Tōtara Grove

Tōtara Grove School

Kia ora koutou

I hope everyone is doing well. It is hard to believe that we are in Week 3 already. Over the last couple of weeks I have thoroughly enjoyed having some one on one time to connect with the wonderful staff here. This school certainly has a team of dedicated professionals who are amazingly talented, kind, competent and hard working. It has been a real pleasure to hear their stories and to get to know them more. I am absolutely loving getting to know our beautiful tamariki here too.

How our tamariki start school each day is important. Being at school on time before the bell goes and having a good breakfast can help to set them up for a successful day. If you need any support around this please let your child’s teacher know. A reminder, the school also has a lovely, relaxed breakfast club each morning between 7.45am and 8.15am where we all chip in to make toast and share in some kōrero with any tamariki who come along. It is organised very well. I have been very impressed with the organisation that happens here at the end of each day to ensure the safety of students, with teachers monitoring the school drop off and pick up zone, and walking with students to ensure they cross the main roads safely.

We are noticing there are a few more Covid-19 cases appearing at school along with colds and flu. If your child is showing any flu-like symptoms please ensure you keep them at home until they are well. Winter illnesses and Covid-19 are also affecting our ability to find relief teachers to cover classes at times too. It is always a last resort for us to have to split a class around other classes and unfortunately we have had to split students among other classes already this term. We are wanting to increase our pool of relief teachers so if you know of any teachers who would like to put their names down to do relief teaching here, please ask them to get in touch with our office.

Have a great week whānau
