It is hard to believe that we have come to the end of the term. Over the term, I have been most impressed with the resilience our students have shown. Despite our disruptive start to the year with cyclone Gabrielle and needing to close the school for several days, our students bounced back and have settled nicely into the routines of the school year. I would also like to thank our wonderful staff for all of the effort and hard work they put into making our kura such a special place. It is a real pleasure to work with like minded, professionals who have the students at the heart of what they do.
A reminder tomorrow will be the last day of the term and that students return to school on Wednesday 26 April after ANZAC day. School will close at 3pm tomorrow as normal. Monday 24 April is a staff only day and our teachers and kaiawhina will be doing some extra learning and work around planning and assessment.
Next term our Ngā Matapono focus value will be Ako – we are all learners and teachers, and the theme for the term will be centered around Te Ao o Ranginui – the sky above us and the world of our sky father. Teachers are already thinking and planning about learning opportunities around this theme for our students and if you have any suggestions or skills and experience in this area teachers would love to hear from you.
Have a wonderful holiday break everyone.
Mauri Ora!

Netball
Kia ora koutou, netball teams are now finalised. Coaches have been given contact details of players and will be in touch with whānau soon. Thank you to whānau who have already made payments for fees. Uniforms will be handed out next term.
School hours and morning drop off
We are noticing that some children are getting dropped off at school far too early. It is not safe for children to be here unsupervised. School starts at 9am and teachers are in their classrooms from 8.30am which is when children may be in their classroom. However, we do offer supervision and a Breakfast Club at 8am outside our staffroom and this is where children can be supervised safely but only from 8am. Please do not drop children off to school before 8am, it is not safe for them to be here before that time and the school cannot take responsibility for them before this time.
Football in schools
For the last week of term 1 we had Northland Football Club delivering their football in schools programme. They took each class for approximately 40 minutes. The classes went through warn ups, skills drills and then fun games.
Thanks to Deon, Pranav, Waseem and Caleb.
Cricket Festival
On Thursday March 30th TGS took part in a cricket festival hosted by Northland Cricket. The festival was held at Kensington Park. The focus for the day was fun and participation. There was a great feeling of manakitanga on the day with everyone cheering for everyone. There were five schools invited and our team played each school.
The games were kept simple and quick so the tamariki didn’t have to wait long for their turn to bat. When our kids got hold of the bat they sent the ball flying. It has been great watching our kids develop their skills at school and then enjoying a day out playing.
TGS team: Skyla R12, Bella-Marie R9, Te Mauri R11, Nivaeya R10, Ryan R10 and Norton-Reks, R10.
Thanks to the whanau who came to watch. It makes it extra special for them.
Thanks to Rob and his team from Northland Cricket.
Scholastic Book club
We have been informed of a shipping delay for the current scholastic book club order (issue #2, 2023). They will most likely arrive at school at the beginning of term 2.
