Welcome to Term 2 and a special welcome to all of the new students and whānau who have joined our kura this term. It is wonderful to have you all at our school. Over the holidays, we had some great work done around the school. In the junior area, new grass has been sown and the ground has been evenly levelled where the old overgrowth and broken greenhouse were. In our senior area, the posts and poles have been painted different colours and are looking vibrant and now match the rest of the school.
This week I would like to acknowledge our wonderful teachers who go above and beyond for our kura. Our teachers place their students at the heart of everything they do and they really care about their learning and wellbeing. We have a fantastic team of teachers at Totara Grove School and I really appreciate their kindness, friendliness and inclusiveness. It is an absolute pleasure to work with them all.
On Monday, the government announced six priority areas that will guide the work programme in the education sector over the coming years.

On Monday, the government announced six priority areas that will guide the work programme in the education sector over the coming years.
- Establishing a knowledge-rich curriculum grounded in the science of learning.
- Implementing evidence-based instruction in early literacy and mathematics.
- Implementing consistent modes of monitoring student progress and achievement.
- Developing the workforce of the future, including leadership development pathways
- Targeting effective learning support interventions for students with additional needs.
- Using high-performing data and evidence to inform decision-making.
We look forward to hearing more from our Ministry of Education about how we will be guided and supported around these.
