I hope everyone had an enjoyable long King’s Birthday weekend. A huge thank you once again to our school whānau for supporting our staff only day that we were required to have last week.
You may have heard in the news the government’s korero around the Structured Literacy approach to teaching literacy in schools across New Zealand. Our kura is very fortunate to work with two of our country’s most outstanding literacy educators Dame Yolanda Soryl and Louise Dempsey. Our literacy teaching and programmes are guided by Yolanda’s work in the junior area of our school and Louise supports our programmes in the senior and middle areas of our school. I am confident with the guidance of these two literacy experts that our teachers are being provided with excellent professional development around best practice in teaching literacy.
On Thursday 27 June, we will be having an Open Morning for whānau to come in to see a little of what happens in our school and to share the morning with their tamariki here. There will be a range of opportunities to visit different activities and spaces across our school including coming to see our wonderful Kapa Haka performance group share a few items. We would like to invite whānau to have shared kai in classes as well. More information will follow but if you have any further questions please do hesitate to ask your child’s teacher or the office. I hope many of you will be able to attend this morning and we will look forward to welcoming you to our open morning.
Kia pai tō wiki!
