Welcome to Term 4. I hope everyone had a good holiday break. It has been great to welcome all of our students back to school this week and I would like to extend a special welcome to all our new whānau who are joining our kura this term. It is great to have you here.
This year, we have all been doing a lot of learning in preparation for the new literacy and mathematics curriculums that will be introduced in 2025. We have been very fortunate to work with Louise Dempsey this year and last year. Louise is an expert in the literacy field and she has written many excellent books on literacy that are used widely in New Zealand schools. Louise has really supported our teachers and students to develop their written language skills. We also continue to work with Dame Yolanda Soryl, another renowned literacy expert, and we use her knowledge and special phonics programme to support our younger students in their journey of learning how to read and write.
Next year, to support our maths curriculum teaching we will be introducing Prime Maths to our kura. Prime Maths is a coherent maths programme that uses the best practices in maths. It is also grounded in the science of learning which is beneficial to student learning. As part of our professional development, we have been very fortunate to visit other schools to learn more about the effective teaching of Prime Maths and we are all really looking forward to putting this learning into practice.
Have a great week
