Totara Grove students from Rooms 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, and 14 recently had an absolutely fantastic day at Bupa Retirement Village participating in a very special community event! It was a truly heartwarming experience that brought together our 150 students with approximately 80 Bupa residents and many of our wonderful school whānau.

We extend a massive thank you to all the parents and family members who came along to support the children. Your presence made the day even more special and showed incredible community spirit.

The children thoroughly enjoyed a day in the sun, engaging in planting the banks of the community wetland in Totara Parklands and sharing joyful moments with the residents. A highlight for many was the delicious array of home-baked goodies provided for morning tea – a real treat! As a memento of the day, each child received a  bag containing gardening gloves to take home, encouraging their green thumbs.

The positive feedback from our students was immediate and enthusiastic. We heard exclamations like, "Can we come back again, this place is cool!" “Are we allowed to come back and see the plants once they are big?” and "I told my plants to grow big and strong!" These comments truly reflect the wonderful connections forged and the positive impact the day had.

We are incredibly proud of our students for their respectful and engaging interactions with the residents.
